Showerthought: I blamed the drive thru headset for 2 years and it was actually one setting on the register
Everyone at my store swears the speakers in the headset are just bad and you have to guess half the orders. I believed that for 2 years and got chewed out by customers plenty of times for wrong food. Turned out the register volume was set at 40 percent the whole time and nobody ever scrolled past the first menu on the setup screen. A new hire from the location on 5th Street fixed it in about 90 seconds on a slow Tuesday. I felt like a fool standing there. Does your store have some dumb setting like that nobody ever checks, or is it just mine?
A register volume setting at 40 percent for two years is wild but I gotta ask, was it really costing you that much? Wrong orders happen at every drive thru whether the headset works or not, people mumble, cars are loud, someone orders a large and you hear a small. Sounds like the new kid from 5th Street just happened to scroll one menu deeper than everyone else. Not sure this is the big lesson people are gonna make it out to be, it's just a thing nobody checked.
