The debate over tipping on takeout orders is tearing our staff apart

Last Saturday I had a couple argue for 5 minutes over whether to tip 15% on their $45 to-go order. The manager ended up comping their drinks just to end the fight. Meanwhile another regular dropped a $20 on a $12 sandwich and said keep it. I'm honestly torn on this. Do you guys think tipping on takeout should be expected or should we just bake it into the prices?

Yeah just bake it into the prices. Nobody tips on a burger they haul home in their own car. If they want to throw extra they still can.

Right? That's exactly how I feel. I grabbed a burrito to go last week and just walked out, no tip, no guilt.
