TIL I hit 50 walkouts at my bar and the 50th one finally made me stop taking it personal
I work the door at a bar in Columbus and last Sat I counted my 50th person who walked up, looked inside, and just left without a word. For months I took it as a knock on me, like I was doing something wrong. But this one dude poked his head in, saw it was packed, and gave me a little nod before he bounced. That nod is when it clicked, most of them aren't mad at me, they just don't want a crowd. Do you guys count stuff like this or am I just weird?
Man, this is such a real thing and it happens everywhere. I've noticed the same pattern at coffee shops, gyms, even church on Christmas Eve, where people walk up, size up the crowd, and quietly turn around, and it almost never has anything to do with the person at the door. We tend to make everything about us when most of the time folks are just making a quick call about their own night. That little nod was the guy basically telling you it's not you, it's the scene. Good on you for counting fifty of them, most people would have quit paying attention way before that.
