Vent: The new phone tree at my job has people asking me to fix the fridge
We just updated our office phone system, and it's hilarious how bad it is. It's supposed to send calls to different departments based on what you pick, but it keeps dumping everyone on the IT line. Last week, a lady called screaming that her yogurt was missing from the shared fridge. I had to gently say I handle software, not stolen snacks. Then a guy called because the toilet paper dispenser in the bathroom was empty. I almost walked over with a roll just to make him happy. My manager says the system is still in training mode, but it feels like it's failing basic school. Now I keep a sticky note with all the direct extensions so I can send people where they actually need to go. It's like being a receptionist for every single office problem.

Could this help you understand the whole office better?

Honestly, getting those weird calls gave me a way better picture of what other teams actually deal with day to day. It was kind of eye-opening in a messy way.

Is this really a big deal though? It sounds like a temporary tech mess-up sending you some silly calls about yogurt and toilet paper. Once they fix the phone tree, you'll go back to just normal computer problems and this will just be a funny story.
