A customer's torque spec comment made me double check my own work

Last week a guy in Bakersfield watched me install a crankset and said 'you know, those bolts looked tight until I saw you skip the torque wrench.' He was right, I was going by feel after years of the same parts and it cost me a come-back job. How many of you still skip the torque wrench on quick shop fixes, or am I the only one who got comfortable?

I mean, I get where he was coming from, but I see it a little different. Going by feel on the same parts you've done a thousand times isnt always laziness, sometimes it's just experience telling you what's right. But the thing is, feel is great until it isnt, and that come-back job is exactly the proof. I've been there too, where I trusted my hands over the tool, and it bit me. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather take the extra 30 seconds and torque it down than explain to a customer why their crank creaks a week later.
