Honestly, I've been crimping my cable ends wrong for like five years.
Tbh, I was just using my Park Tool CN-10 crimper on the metal sleeve and calling it good, but a customer brought in a bike where the housing kept pulling out. Ngl, I watched a video from a shop in Portland and realized you have to crimp the housing's plastic liner first, then the metal. How do you guys make sure those things actually stay put?

Yeah the plastic liner first thing is a game changer. I just give it a good squeeze with the crimper, then do the metal. Seems to lock it in solid.

Oh man, @james_kim, that's so true. It's like when you do things in the right order, the whole job just clicks. I see it everywhere now. Like cleaning a pan, you gotta soak it first or you're just scrubbing forever. Or putting a USB in, you flip it twice before it goes. That extra step you mentioned with the liner is the same deal, a little prep makes the main task easy.
