I finally stopped believing the hype about torque wrenches for every bolt
After 15 years of wrenching in Portland shops, I've seen more stripped threads from people blindly torquing to spec on rusty frames than I ever did from just using my hand and a feeler gauge, so who else has found that a good calibrated touch beats most click-type wrenches for older steel bikes?

PREACH. I have been saying this for YEARS and people look at me like I'm crazy. Torque wrenches on old steel frames with corroded bolts is a recipe for disaster. A good feel in your hand from years of practice is way more reliable than some clicker that might be out of calibration anyway. I've pulled out so many seized bolts that would have snapped clean off if someone had just followed the number in a manual.
