Overheard a customer say 'just tighten it until it stops creaking' about a bottom bracket.
That made me think. One side says torque specs are for shops, the other says they're the only way to do it right. Where do you stand on using a torque wrench for every bolt?

Why waste time on a torque wrench when your ear works just fine?

Oh man, that reminds me of my uncle who rebuilt engines by feel. He'd say "tighten it till it strips, then back it off a quarter turn." Worked great until his lawnmower piston shot through the hood like a cartoon. Found bolts in the grass for weeks.

Sounds like a fun story but is that really how things go wrong?
