Spent 45 minutes on a creak that was just a loose bottle cage bolt
I was convinced it was a bottom bracket issue and had the whole crankset off. Anyone else ever waste time on something that simple?

Used to think every weird noise was a bottom bracket problem. Spent a whole weekend once chasing a creak that turned out to be a dry seatpost clamp. The sound just traveled through the frame and tricked me. Now I start with the cheap and easy stuff first, like checking all the bolts. It saves so much time and frustration. That experience totally changed how I deal with bike noises.

Honestly, what was the noise like that made you think it was the bottom bracket? I had a similar thing happen but it was a clicking sound that only happened under load.
