My coworker of 6 years got a haircut and suddenly he's a manager

Dude showed up Monday with a fresh fade and a jacket that actually fit, and by Friday he had the corner office... I'm not saying correlation equals causation, but I've had the same mop since 2014 and I'm still getting asked to reset people's Outlook passwords. He went from 'hey can you check my ticket' to 'let's circle back on the Q3 roadmap' in like 4 days. Has anyone else seen one small change trigger a bigger shift at work, or is this just some weird office physics thing?
