Picked a $40k job in Charlotte over staying near my parents in Ohio, and 8 months later I'm still not sure
Last fall I got two offers on the same day, one was 40k in Charlotte at a logistics company and the other was 34k at a place 20 minutes from my parents in Dayton. I picked Charlotte because the money and the title sounded better, but I've been here 8 months now and my whole life is a studio apartment and a drive thru on Harris Blvd. For people who moved far for a job, did the money ever end up being worth it or did you end up back home?
Wait, 40k a year and your whole life is a studio apartment and a drive thru on Harris Blvd? That math is not mathing in your favor at all. After rent and car stuff you're probably bringing home like 500 bucks a week, so the 6k difference from the Dayton job is basically nothing once you add in the drive thru meals and the gas you burn driving around alone. I keep picturing you sitting in that studio eating a burger out of a paper bag watching your phone, and that is a rough 8 months. Was the title at least worth putting on a resume? Cause if not, that 34k next to your parents is looking real good right about now lol.
