Can we talk about season 2 slumps ruining good shows?
Just finished a show called The Harbor Lights that had a killer first season. Binged it in 3 nights. Started season 2 this week and by episode 4 I was checking my phone every 5 minutes. The plot went sideways, they killed off the best character, and added some boring love triangle that goes nowhere. I pushed through to episode 7 then quit. Anyone else bail on a series halfway through after loving the start? Do you ever go back and finish it or just move on?
Did the same thing with a show last year and what actually worked for me was waiting a few months then jumping back in at the episode where I quit, not starting over. Turns out the middle stretch was just a rough patch and it got good again around episode 9, but I never would have made it there week to week when every ep felt like a chore. The key thing was giving myself permission to skip ahead if a storyline was clearly going nowhere (looking at you, pointless love triangle). If it's still bad after that, just drop it and read the ending on a wiki, life's too short. Some shows recover, some don't, and you can usually tell within an episode or two of coming back which one you're dealing with.
