Got roasted on a forum thread for skipping the slow burn episodes of The Wire

Someone said I was missing all the setup that makes the payoff hit harder, so I went back and watched seasons 1 and 2 without skipping anything. That guy was right - the boring parts are what glue the whole show together, anyone else have a show they almost ruined by rushing?

I mean, I get where you're coming from, but honestly I think skipping that stuff is fine for a lot of shows. The Wire is kind of an exception because it's basically a novel, but most shows have filler that just wastes your time. Like, if I'm watching something and the first three episodes are just people staring at each other and talking about their feelings, I'm out. Life's too short for that. You can always catch the important stuff in recaps or just jump in when things actually happen.

My buddy tried that with Breaking Bad and had no clue who Gus was for three seasons.

Eh, is it really that big a deal though? Missed some context but he still got the show. Sounds like a win to me. @spencerm46 has a point, life is short.
