Heard a guy at the coffee shop say "Succession is overrated" and I almost spit out my drink

The dude was serious too. Said he fell asleep during episode 3. I get that the slow burn isn't for everyone, but the writing in season 2 alone is tighter than anything on TV right now. Has anyone else had to defend this show to someone who clearly didn't give it a fair shot?

Season 2 is where it really clicks, episode 3 is way too early to bail on a show like that. Maybe he was just expecting nonstop yelling from the start.

Honestly, can I ask what makes you say the stakes aren't real for normal people? Because the show is literally about power and how it corrupts everyone it touches, even the people who think they're the good guys. The fights over board seats and billions might seem alien, but the jealousy, the need for approval, the way families tear each other apart over money and love - that stuff hits home for pretty much everyone. I get that it's dressed up in suits and helicopters, but the actual drama is pretty universal. Ngl, I think calling it "rich people problems" kinda misses the point about how greed and ego can ruin anyone's relationships, not just billionaires.

...hang on let me play devil's advocate here for a sec. The show is overrated, and I'll tell you why. A show about a bunch of rich people yelling at each other in nice suits isn't automatically genius just because the dialogue is snappy. Season 2 might have tight writing but the whole thing is just rich people problems with no real stakes for anyone normal. I get that the acting is good and the writing is polished, but polished doesn't mean it's the best thing ever made. Falling asleep in episode 3 is fair if you've seen this story a hundred times before, it's just packaged in HBO wrapping paper.
