Hit 400 episodes of The Simpsons last night and I'm not sure why I kept going

I've been watching The Simpsons from season 1 for the past 8 months, just one episode a night before bed. Last night I crossed episode 400 and it hit me that I've spent over 13 days of my life on this show. The early seasons were gold but I'm deep in the weird zombie era now and I can't stop. Anyone else stuck in a long-running show they started out of nostalgia but now it's just a habit?

Deep in the weird zombie era" is the perfect way to put it. Honestly I think you should just quit. Of course the early seasons were gold, everyone knows that. But forcing yourself through 400+ episodes out of some weird obligation is just insane to me. You said it yourself, you can't even explain why you kept going. That sounds like a sunk cost fallacy more than anything else. There are so many other shows out there that are actually good right now, or you could rewatch the first 10 seasons and actually enjoy yourself. Life is too short to watch 13 days of mid content just because you started something.

Oh come on, it's just a TV show. I get being annoyed at a bad season or two but calling it a "sunk cost" like you're making a bad investment decision feels a little dramatic. If the guy wants to watch 400 episodes of a show he's not even enjoying, that's on him but let's not pretend it's some deep psychological trap.

Cut the cord and swap to a curated playlist of just your favorite episodes. I did that with The Simpsons after season 12, saved me from the slump and kept the good memories intact. You'll enjoy the show way more when you're not trudging through the filler.
