Just realized subtitle timing in foreign shows makes a huge difference
I started watching "Dark" on Netflix (the German one) and kept losing track of characters because the subtitles would flash by too fast. After about 4 episodes of pausing every 5 minutes, I tried setting my subtitle speed to 80% in the player settings, and it totally fixed the problem. Now I can finally follow the multiple timelines without rewinding every scene. Has anyone else struggled with subtitle pacing on dense shows like this?

Try lowering the playback speed to 0.9x too. It helps a ton with German shows.

Wait, have you tried it with those super fast German crime shows like Tatort? I was struggling so bad with the heavy regional dialects until someone told me to slow it down to 0.85x and it was like a whole new world opened up. Suddenly I could catch every word and actually follow the plot instead of just guessing what was happening. The voices sound a little deep but you get used to it quick, plus you can bump it back up once you get the hang of the dialogue patterns. I still do it with new shows I'm not familiar with and it saves me from having to rewind constantly.

Yeah totally agree with @kim191 on the playback speed thing too I actually do the same with some British shows where they talk super fast, it makes a world of difference. This whole thing reminds me of how we just accept whatever speed stuff comes at us in daily life without thinking, like have you noticed how news anchors now talk way faster than they did 20 years ago? Or those auto-play videos on social media where you cant control the pace? We're all just expected to keep up with everything at full speed all the time and nobody questions it until stuff like subtitles or a dense show forces you to slow down. It's wild how much better you can actually process things when you take control of the speed yourself, whether its subtitles on Dark or just telling someone to repeat what they said.
