My coworker changed my mind about 'Breaking Bad' being the best show ever

I always said Breaking Bad was untouchable until my coworker Dave pointed out how slow the first two seasons are. He said he almost quit three times before it got good. Made me realize I recommend shows too fast without remembering the slog parts. Anyone else have a show they love but admit has a rough start?

I saw a review saying the first season is basically a long setup for a punchline.

It's a show about a depressed cartoon horse, not a ten hour mystery novel lol. People act like every single episode needs to stand alone as its own masterpiece but that's just not how a lot of good shows work. The first season is mostly introducing the characters and getting you to care about Bojack's pathetic life before the real mess starts. By episode 7 or 8 stuff actually happens that sets up the whole tone for the rest of the series. It's fine if you don't like slow burns but calling a whole season "a setup" sounds like someone trying too hard to sound smart.
