The weekend I watched 12 hours of a show and still don't know the plot

Last Saturday I started this new crime drama on Hulu, looked down at my phone for one second, missed some key detail, and then spent the next 11 hours trying to piece things together. By Sunday night I was four episodes past where I got lost and still had no idea who the killer was. Finally looked up a recap online and found out I'd been watching the wrong character the whole time. Has anyone else lost an entire weekend to a show they barely understood?

Oh man, "watching the wrong character the whole time" hit me right in the feels. I did this exact thing with a Netflix series last year. Got 10 hours deep before my friend asked if I thought the main guy was guilty and I said I wasn't even sure who the main guy was. That sinking feeling when you realize you've been staring at a screen for hours and still couldn't pass a basic quiz on it. I think we all just want to feel like we're following along but sometimes our brains decide to take a nap instead.

Nah, I actually think it's more fun to zone out and piece it together later... adds a little mystery.

Oh absolutely, that's exactly what I did with that mystery show everyone was talking about. I was deep into episode 6 when my wife asked me who I thought the killer was, and I pointed to some random side character who had maybe three lines total. @margareth48 I kinda get your point about the mystery being fun, but for me it's just painful when you realize you've been staring at the wrong person for hours. I had to actually start it over from episode one just to figure out who the main suspect even was. Felt like my brain just decided to check out and watch the pretty pictures instead of the actual plot.
