Why I finally stopped hate-watching that fantasy epic after 2 seasons

Last month I was three episodes into season two of that dragon show everyone raves about, and I kept waiting for it to click. I'd already sunk like 14 hours into it, so I figured I might as well finish, right? Then my buddy from Austin told me he quit at episode 5 and said life's too short for boring magic systems. That hit me harder than I expected, because I realized I was only watching out of stubbornness, not joy. So I dropped it right there and started that 90s sci-fi sitcom instead, finished all 5 seasons in 10 days. Has anyone else bailed on a popular show just because everyone said it was great? What made you finally walk away?

Life's too short for boring magic systems is right, but I quit at episode 2 because the dragons looked like dead parrots.
