Hit 500 hand-forged hooks before I even noticed

Honestly I was just counting inventory for a craft fair I'm doing in March and realized I've made over 500 of my little J shaped hooks. I started making them two years ago just to use up scrap from railing jobs. They're nothing fancy just utility hooks for hanging tools or pots but seeing that number on paper made me stop and think. Has anyone else hit a random milestone with a project they thought was just filler work?

Yeah that's a real thing. Nobody ever sees the small stuff piling up. You just keep making the same simple hook over and over and then boom, 500. I bet half of them are sitting in someone's garage or shed right now holding up shovels and nobody even remembers where they came from. But that's kind of the point aren't they? Utility that just works. Personally I think that's a better legacy than a bunch of fancy stuff nobody actually uses. You probably don't even realize how many people depend on those hooks every single day.

Why do people always assume simple equals easy? Making 500 of anything clean and consistent takes way more discipline than one-off art pieces. The real skill is nailing the same thing perfectly every time, which is harder than it sounds.

500 hooks in two years? That's basically making the same thing over and over without any challenge or growth. I'd be worried about getting stuck in a rut (creatively speaking) instead of pushing myself to try new designs or techniques. If I'm being honest, spending that much time on "filler work" feels like you're missing out on chances to actually level up your craft.
