I finally got the hang of forge welding after a weekend workshop in Asheville

Honestly, I'd been struggling with getting a clean weld on my own for ages. The instructor, a guy named Carl, showed me his trick of using a thin layer of borax and keeping the heat just under 2000 degrees. Ngl, seeing the metal flow together without burning up was a game changer. Anyone else have a specific temp they swear by for forge welding mild steel?

Honestly, temperature matters less than a clean metal surface and good hammer control.

Nice! I finally got it too after burning up so much metal... around 1900 degrees is my sweet spot.
