Just read that a medieval anvil could weigh over 500 pounds and was often a family's most valuable tool.
I was flipping through a library book on metalworking history and that detail about the anvil's worth really stuck with me. It makes you think about the trade's importance back then compared to now. Does anyone know of other surprising historical facts about our tools?

Totally changes how you see those old blacksmith scenes in movies. That thing was their entire livelihood sitting there. Makes our power tools feel kinda cheap.

I mean it's wild how we take tools for granted now. You can get a decent hammer for like twenty bucks, but back then that anvil was basically their family business. Makes you wonder what we treat as disposable that our grandkids will think was priceless.

Wow, that's a scary thought. We're already seeing it with old game consoles and VHS tapes. But what about all the streaming shows we watch once? Future generations might not even be able to access them if the service shuts down. Our whole digital culture could just vanish, like photos on a dead phone.
