My forge hood almost collapsed from creosote buildup
I noticed a lot of smoke backing up into the shop last week. Turns out the chimney was nearly clogged with hardened tar from burning soft coal. How often do you clean your exhaust systems to prevent this?

How does it get that bad without you noticing? That sounds like a serious fire risk.

Honestly, @andrewwells, calling it a "serious fire risk" might be overstating things. Tbh, for a fire to start, you usually need an actual ignition source like a faulty wire or open flame. I've had my own place pretty messy with papers and boxes, and it never came close to being dangerous. It just feels like people worry too much about worst case scenarios all the time.
