Pro tip: That $800 power hammer I bought on a whim was a game changer
I was working out of my garage shop for a good five years, just me and my trusty 4-pound hand hammer. I saw this old mechanical power hammer for sale about a year ago, guy was moving and needed it gone. It was a big chunk of cash for me, around $800, and I almost talked myself out of it. But man, pulling that lever for the first time and seeing it pound a piece of 1-inch stock flat in a few hits... it changed everything. My output for things like tool blanks and basic scrollwork probably tripled overnight. My shoulder stopped aching every single evening. I still use my hand hammer for the fine work, but for the heavy drawing out, it's like having a second set of arms that never get tired. Anyone else make a tool jump that felt like moving from the dark ages into the modern era?

Exactly, it's like finally having the right tool for the job instead of just fighting the material. That kind of upgrade makes the craft fun again.

Okay, but "moving from the dark ages"? That's a bit much. It's a hammer that moves by itself, not a time machine. I get what @masonbell means about having the right tool, but calling a basic power hammer a game changer feels like overkill. People made amazing things for centuries with just a hand hammer and an anvil. It just seems like a faster way to get the boring, heavy part done so you can get to the actual craft part. It's a nice helper, not a revolution.
