Pro tip: wrapping my anvil chain in a bike inner tube killed the ring

Last week I got tired of my anvil ringing like a church bell in my garage shop, so I cut up an old bike inner tube and wrapped it around the chain before cinching it down tight. The difference was huge, I could actually hear my hammer strike instead of that ear splitting tone, and I didn't have to bolt the stump to the floor in my rental. Does anyone else use rubber or something else to deaden the sound, or am I late to this one?
