Ren faire vendor in Ohio had the flattest anvils I've ever seen
Stopped by a medieval demo booth outside Columbus and the guy was "forging" on a beat-up anvil with a face so dished you could park a marble in it. He was just re-heating and hammering the same piece with zero contact, I almost offered him my spare from the truck. Am I the only one who spots these setups and wants to hand out business cards?
Been there. Saw a guy at a festival in Indiana doing the same thing, hammer bouncing off a swayback anvil like he was playing tennis. I just walked up after his demo and asked if he wanted to try my spare, he looked at me like I handed him a puppy. Guy had no idea his anvil was the problem, he thought his hammer was bad the whole time. Now I keep a couple old beaters in the truck bed just for that, costs me nothing and it gets a real tool back in someone's hands. Half the time these booths are run by history buffs who got handed whatever gear was lying around, not smiths who know better.
