Two days to find a leak in my own forge hood, embarrassing

Took me 48 hours to realize my exhaust hood had a crack letting smoke back into the shop, not a draft issue. I patched it with high-temp silicone from the hardware store in Tulsa, but I should have checked the welds first. Anyone else waste a whole weekend on a simple fix they overlooked?
