Went from coal to gas forge after 12 years, no looking back
I kept my old coal setup for smithing because that's what my mentor used, but switched last spring after fighting with clinker one too many times. Now I just flip a valve and get to work, anyone else make the swap and deal with the same guilt about ditching tradition?

Coal's not just tradition, it's a whole different skill set. You're trading one fight for another, just a cleaner one. Gas forges are nice but they baby you, coal makes you read the fire and the steel in a way you lose otherwise. I've seen guys burn more work on a gas forge because they stop paying attention, clinker at least kept you honest. Not saying you're wrong, just saying it's not a straight upgrade, it's a trade.
