A guy at the Fort Worth card show showed me a 1952 Topps Mantle with a trimmed edge and I finally get why grading matters
I always figured slabbing cards was a scam until I saw him pull out a loupe and point to where the border was shaved down to 1 millimeter on the left side, which meant the card was worth $800 instead of $40,000, so now I want to know how many people are out there buying raw vintage without ever checking the edges themselves.
