Can we talk about people who call every game with dice "luck based"?

I keep seeing folks in meetups write off games like Castles of Burgundy or Troyes because they have dice, saying it's all random. Doesn't that ignore how much strategy goes into managing those rolls and planning around probabilities? I've been playing these games for about 2 years now and the same players keep winning, so luck can't be the whole story. Where do you draw the line between dice games that rely on skill versus ones that are just rolling and hoping?

...and then they say stuff like "oh you just got lucky" when you pivot your whole strategy around a bad roll and still pull it off. Like, yeah, sometimes the dice hate you and you lose no matter what, but if the same guy wins 4 out of 5 games maybe his "luck" is actually just knowing when to grab a different color die or save up for a special action. I've seen people blame the dice in Castles of Burgundy when they spent the whole game grabbing random tiles instead of building a plan. It's not the dice's fault you ignored the whole probability part, you know?

Exactly this. The people who consistently win in dice games aren't just lucky, they're playing the odds. I've watched guys in my group dump all their silver dice just because they didn't like the number, but a smart player knows a 4 on a white die might be better than holding out for a perfect 6 on a gold one. It's about reading the board and knowing when to cut your losses, not just hoping for the best roll.
