Then my buddy dragged me to a Monday night meetup at a cafe in Seattle, and someone pulled out Viticulture. I almost left when I saw the board, but he made me play one round before deciding. The moment I had to decide between planting vines and building a trellis, and then saw my opponent steal the good spot on the turn order track, something clicked. It wasn't about the theme or the rules, it was the constant pressure of limited actions and watching everyone's plans bump into each other. Now I own three worker placement games and I'm always looking for the next one. Has anyone else had a genre they wrote off for years, then one specific session turned them around completely?
