Overheard a couple at the cafe saying they only play games that take under an hour now
I was grabbing coffee yesterday and the people next to me were talking about their game group. One said, 'We just don't have the time for anything longer than 60 minutes anymore.' It made me think about how many people are moving away from those big, all-night games. I wonder if this is a common shift, or if it's just their specific group. Has anyone else's regular game nights gotten a lot shorter lately?

We had a guy in our group who would only play games that took exactly 47 minutes. No joke. He timed everything with a stopwatch on his phone and would get annoyed if a game ran long. He'd literally get up and walk away at the 48 minute mark. We tried playing shorter games with him but he'd still check his watch every five minutes. Eventually we just stopped inviting him because it was too stressful trying to figure out what game fit his weird schedule. Now we just play what we want and if someone has to leave early they just leave. No big deal.

My group switched to shorter games last year. We used to try for Twilight Imperium but now we stick to stuff like Azul or Cascadia. It's just easier to get three people to commit to 45 minutes than four hours on a weeknight. Honestly, we play more often now because it's less of a big deal.
