Saw a meetup at a cafe in Denver where people played a 4-hour game and nobody checked their phone once
I was in Denver last weekend visiting my sister and we stopped at this cafe on South Broadway for coffee. At the big table next to us, six people pulled out a huge board game with like a million little pieces and cards. For almost 4 hours they just played, laughed, argued about rules, and not one of them looked at a phone. I've been into board games for a couple years but mostly solo or with one friend online. Seeing a full table of strangers actually hanging out and having fun made me want to find a local group back home. I asked the barista and she said they do it every Saturday, bring your own game or just show up. Now I'm wondering if I should try to start something like that in my town or just drive up to Denver more. How do you even find people who want to play longer games without it getting weird?
What did the barista say when you asked if you could just show up solo, because that part matters. A lot of these groups say everyone is welcome but then you get there and it is six friends who have been playing together for years and you are the odd one out. Did she make it sound like a drop in thing or did you have to know somebody?
