The night I figured out I was shuffling my deck wrong for 3 years

I was at a weekly game night at my local shop in Austin when a guy named Mike watched me shuffle my deck for a new game. He just stared at me and said "dude, you're damaging all the cards." I had been doing that bridge shuffle where you bend the corners way up and let them snap together. Turns out I was slowly destroying the edges of my favorite games and I never even realized it. Has anyone else had a basic game habit that you later found out was ruining your stuff?

Totally did this with my Magic cards for years before someone politely yelled at me.

Huh, I see it a bit differently @spencerm46... I actually think that's kind of a cool thing to do with old cards. Like, why not give them a second life as decoration or whatever? Sure, maybe you're "ruining" their collector value, but not everyone's trying to flip their collection. I've got a shoebox full of old basics that I'll never use in a deck anyway, might as well do something fun with them...
