We were setting up for a Saturday session and my buddy's wife glanced at the rulebook, then asked why we were only building roads on our own turns. Turns out you can place a road anytime during your turn, and it completely changed how we handled resource trades after that game.

That thing about "only building roads on our own turns" really got me thinking. I once played a whole year of Risk where we thought you had to roll the dice every time you attacked, not just when you wanted to, because the instructions got really blurry after a few late night games. We ended up with these crazy long battles that took forever, and it turned Risk into a three hour slog. When we finally figured out you could just move armies without rolling every single time, it felt like discovering a cheat code. Those rulebook moments are wild, especially when you realize you've been playing the game harder than you had to for years.
