A 30 year hand in Gary asked me why I still use a center punch before drilling tube sheets
I was drilling a tube sheet on a small boiler job in Gary, Indiana last month when a guy with 30 years in the trade walked by and asked why I bother marking every hole with a center punch first. He said he quit doing it back in the 90s because his bits stopped walking once he switched to a split point set, and I have been thinking about it ever since. Does anyone here still center punch every hole, or did you drop it once your bits got better?
