A welder in Gary told me to slow down and it finally clicked

I was burning through rods on a tank repair outside Gary last month, trying to finish before the rain hit. This old welder, maybe 60, watched me for a minute and said, you're not laying beads, you're fighting the metal. He showed me his setup, slower amps, shorter passes, and let the puddle lead instead of chasing it. I've been doing this 8 years and nobody ever broke it down like that. It hit different because he wasn't lecturing, just pointed at the actual weld and let me see the difference. Anyone else had a random stranger fix a habit you didn't even know you had?
