Debate: Should a boiler repair take 4 hours or a full day? Here's what happened to me.

I ran into a stubborn feedwater valve leak on a Cleaver-Brooks last month that I figured would be a quick fix, but it ended up taking 8 hours because the old gasket had fused to the flange. What's your cutoff for when a simple job turns into an all-day project?

Man, that sounds frustrating... I spent six hours on a water heater last week because someone before me used pipe dope on every single threaded fitting instead of Teflon tape.

Did you end up cleaning all that dope off or just replace the fittings?

Yo ok but @black.joel i used to swear by pipe dope for everything until i had to undo someone else's work once. Total game changer when i finally tried tape haha.
