Finally asked the old timer about his grinder wheel trick

Been doing flat prep for 8 years and always wore out wheels in 2 days. This 62 year old guy at the shop showed me how he angles the wheel 5 degrees off and it lasts a week plus. Weird how a 2 minute conversation can save me $40 a month on wheels. Anyone else got a cheap trick they wish they learned sooner?

The 5 degree trick is solid, and it works the same way for flap discs too. I wish somebody had told me years ago to keep the wheel moving instead of planting it in one spot. Another thing that saved me a ton is flipping the work piece instead of burning through wheels on the same side. Also, let the wheel do the cutting and back off on the pressure, that alone doubled my wheel life. Old guys really do know what they're doing, they just don't volunteer it until you ask lol.
