Finally tried that new weld prep method from the Omaha seminar
I saw a demo for a different bevel angle on thick plate at a conference last fall and thought it was just hype. Tried it on a pressure vessel repair job two weeks ago, using the exact 22-degree setup they showed. The fit-up was way tighter on the first try and we cut our weld time by almost an hour. Totally changed my mind on that technique. Anyone else given that specific method a shot on their recent jobs?

Wait, @henry_martinez said it made the gap worse? That's wild, it locked up perfect for us. Maybe their plate thickness was different or something.

Our shop tried that Omaha angle and it just made our root gap worse every time.

Man, that's so frustrating when a trick that works for everyone else just blows up on you. I've been there with a different method on some thin wall pipe. You set everything up by the book, but the heat just pulls it all wrong. Makes you want to throw your level across the shop.
