Had a new guy show up to a 6-inch steam line job expecting to use oxy-acetylene for everything

Watched him try to heat up a 3/4-inch brace lug with a rosebud tip for 10 minutes before I walked over and handed him a 6010 rod.

Rosebud on a 3/4 lug? He was trying to melt it off the pipe.

Is it really that big of a deal though? I get that a rosebud on a small fitting is overkill but sounds like the guy just got a little carried away with the heat. Unless he was actually just cooking it with the rosebud for like ten minutes straight I bet the lug is fine. You can hit a 3/4 lug with a normal tip and have the same problem if you're not careful. @wyattrobinson I've seen guys do worse with a standard torch and still get away with it. The real question is if the lug was even tight to begin with or if it was already half stripped. Chances are he was just trying to get it off fast and didn't think it through.
