Just realized my whole approach to tube rolling changed after a shutdown at the Con Ed plant in New York.

We were replacing a superheater section and the foreman, a guy named Carl, insisted we roll the tubes cold instead of heating them first like the book says. He argued it gave a better, more even seat and saved half a day on the schedule. I thought he was crazy, but after seeing zero leaks on the hydro test, I'm not so sure. Do you guys stick to the book specs or have you found a better way in the field?

That's how most real world fixes happen honestly.

My last fix involved a paperclip and a prayer, adam517. It's the duct tape method of problem solving. Works until it doesn't.

Carl's the kind of guy who'd probably fix a leaky faucet with a hammer and call it good... but hey, if it passed the hydro test I guess the book can be wrong sometimes.
