Old fitter showed me how to read a flexed pipe in five seconds flat
Down in Baton Rouge last month, this retired fitter walked up while I was scratching my head over a stubborn 6-inch line and just said "look where the light hits the crown, not the bend." He had me mark the shiny spot and it lined up perfect for the cut, saved me an hour of trial and error. Has anyone else had a shop legend drop a trick that made you question your whole training?
Learned the same kind of thing from an old pipefitter who told me to watch the shadow line instead of the bend when I was doing some 4-inch work. Stood there thinking how did nobody teach me this in three years of school. Those old guys picked up stuff on job sites that no classroom ever covers.
