Warning: that old flange weld on the Barlow boiler took me a full day to cut out
Thought it was a simple cut and replace job. The flange was on a 3-inch steam line, looked straightforward. Turns out the previous guy used a rod I've never seen before, maybe some old nickel alloy. My standard torch setup just wouldn't bite. Ended up grinding it down with a 7-inch disc, then using a cold chisel for the last bit. Took from 7 AM to almost 5 PM. Anyone know a better method for weird old alloys like that?

Ever feel like the guy before you was just trying to mess with the next person?

Oh totally. Like when someone puts the toilet paper roll on backwards (seriously, who does that). Or hides the remote in the weirdest spot. My favorite is when they use the last of the milk and put the empty carton back in the fridge. That's a special kind of planning ahead.
