Watching a guy at the Gary job site re-roll a tube by feel changed how I check my own work
I was on a retubing job in Gary, Indiana back in March and this older hand named Pete rolled a whole pass without ever looking at his gauge. I asked him about it and he said he can hear when a roller hits the right torque, and after watching him I started listening to my own gun instead of just eyeballing the dial. Cut my re-rolls on that job down to 3 out of 80 tubes, which is way better than the 9 I had on the last one. Any of you guys go by sound on your rolls or is that just a Pete thing?
