Why does nobody talk about the 500-hour mark on a new boiler tube?
I just logged the first 500 hours on a big water tube boiler we installed at a plant in Wichita. The heat transfer numbers were still spot on, which really surprised me. I expected some drop off by now, but the readings were as good as day one. It makes me think the pre-cleaning and passivation steps we took were more important than I gave them credit for. Has anyone else seen a boiler hold its efficiency this well past the initial run-in period?

Man, that's awesome. It's like when you buy a good set of tools and they just work right forever. You see it with stuff like a cast iron skillet you season right, or a pair of boots you break in slow. Do the prep work the right way, and the thing just performs. It feels like most stuff is built to fail now, so when something actually holds up, it's a real surprise.

My grandpa's old framing hammer from the 70s is still in my toolbox. Miles144, you're right about that feeling when something just lasts. I've got a pair of work jeans with over 500 days on job sites and the seams are only now starting to go. It's so rare now, but when you find gear that doesn't quit, you never let it go.

My dad's old Stanley tape still works perfect.
