Got roasted by a guy in Cincinnati for my endband glue

Some old bookbinder saw me using PVA for endbands at a workshop and told me I was making my life harder. Switched to a starch paste mix and now the bands actually stay flexible without popping off after a year. Anyone else have a glue trick they swear on?

Throwing some rice starch in there definitely helps keep it from getting too stiff.

Is that starch paste mix just wheat paste and water or you adding something else to it? I read somewhere that some old timers use a bit of rice starch to keep it from getting brittle.

Does it really matter that much, the rice starch thing feels like overthinking it @thomas.tyler.
