Mull over PVA vs wheat paste for a tight-back rebind, landed on one

I had to pick between PVA and wheat paste for a rebind last month, went with PVA for speed but the spine crackled after drying. Next project I'm testing a 50/50 mix, anyone else run into that issue with tighter joints?

...and that's kind of how it goes with most adhesives, the fast fix always comes back to bite you somewhere. It's like caulk in a bathroom, too much and it cracks, too little and it leaks, you just gotta find the middle ground.
