My mentor told me to stop using wheat paste on spines and I ignored her for a year

Back when I started binding last spring, my old teacher warned me wheat paste would eventually attract bookworms in my humid basement. Well, I found three little holes in a copy of Moby Dick I did six months ago, and now I'm recasing the whole thing. Anyone else had pests ruin a project after sticking with an older method?

Well that's just great, now I'm mentally inspecting every spine in my house like I'm checking for termites. Three little holes in Moby Dick sounds poetic until you realize the bookworms probably thought they were improving the classic literature by adding some ventilation. Honestly, I'd say the wheat paste is a good method right up until it stops being one and then suddenly you've got a whole new hobby called "book pest extermination." Guess that teacher didn't just know what she was talking about, she knew exactly what kind of spicy science experiment your basement was cooking up. Enjoy recasing that copy, sounds like a perfect Saturday project for someone who hates finishing things quickly.
