Question about using a PVA mix for book cloth

I used to make my own book cloth with just straight methyl cellulose paste. It worked okay, but the cloth could feel a bit stiff and sometimes the paste would soak through lighter fabrics. About six months ago, I was talking to a binder at a small meet-up in Sacramento, and she told me to try a mix of PVA glue and water, about a 50/50 split. I was pretty unsure at first, but I gave it a shot on some test linen. The difference was huge. The cloth stays way more flexible, it dries faster without warping the backing paper, and I get almost no bleed-through now. I've been using it for every case binding since. Has anyone else tried this method, or do you stick with a different adhesive for making cloth?

Tell me more about how you used it, @caleb_stone.

Actually, a 50/50 mix is way too thick, you'll get bubbles.
